also worth noting they can be painted a lot faster with a base & dip type method, the waterloo era are easier as they have fewer large areas in white. the contrast stuff would probably do a halfway decent base job with a bit of care too.
I actually did some test models as base & dip - Warlord have a guide to it, just block in the basic colours and use a brown wash over or a tinted varnish.
helps with Sharpe Practice and similar you don't actually need very many models, we have been playing pretty big games but it works with forces considerably smaller

yes hes done seriously well with them, I watched in awe..
paint sky grey, then 50-50 sky grey & dead white to get a solid base, touched up the green a bit.. gives solid bands, washed black when he washed the green, green got drybrushed without being too bothered if the white got a bit of it, he then drybrushed the lot in camo black brown lightly which left them looking like that
he really is a sod but has worked out some very nice ways of doing it - all of the above weathering goes over the decals as well so it all blends nicely
what with the new job coming up and being weirdly busy not managed much model painted the past few weeks, however this weekend I have taken a step towards limiting interruptions..
now most of the way through the build and installation of a painting desk & storage shelves, discovered that 18mm plywood is actually quite heavy in the process. few bits to finish off (like it needs a softwood strip along the front edges which I forgot to order so have to go fetch tomorrow and then it needs painting but overall not bad, step up from the last painting desk in this being a lot larger (last room was only 6'x6'6", this desk is 8' long and at 24" deep, deeper than last time).
lacks a spray area which will be on the other side of the room but for now it will do, does anyone know a decent supplier of wall mounted paint racking thats not "how %^%$£$&ing much??!" as its that or having a go as something custom made
TBH I would go for a few rows of long narrow shelves much cheaper than buying owt
sort of what I was thinking, the main shelves are the wall strips that you hook brackets to, may end up making something to hook on them, already likely to see a narrower shelf for holding models I'm working on (there is plenty of space, between the main desk and the first storage shelf above it is about 3'' (though a small model railway is going in there as well... another rabbit hole)
wondering about a sheet of plywood with a few narrower strips glued to it and a little lip at the front
