DBN

Post by Baldie »

Just had a demo game of DBN, 6mm French vs Russians

Amazing, plays similar to DBA but with differences like units taking upto 3 wounds. Cross between DBA and Lart.
Going to get some 6mm Baccus figs and base to use for DBN and Lart, which should be releasing Napoleonic and a Rennaisance version.

Force I used today was

Commander on a 40x40

Division 1 3 x inf on 40x20, 1 x elite inf on 40x20

Division 2 3 x inf on 40x20 1 x skirmish inf on 40x20

Support 2 x foot artillery on 40x40, 2 x cossack cav on 40x30, 1 x Heavy cav on 40x30, 1 x light cav on 40x30

16 bases so much less figs than our impetus forces

This was basic game, you can do em much bigger. Rules can still be bought Thu are on V2.1 and supported with loads of free and chargeable campaigns.

I guess Lart would be 3 divisions and about 24 bases so a doddle. I may even get le frogs as well to have two sides.

No doubt can play BP as well.

if this is what I'm thinking ofm IIRC "Horse, Foot and Guns" I've got the rules but not the models, unless we play in 28mm, when I simply don't have enough models.

unlikely to be starting new modelling projects for a while for financial reasons, but its one I would look at eventually, love the period

Easy enough to use 28mm figs for it but Sharp Practice is def my preferred 28mm Naps game.
I got enough for a decent BP game but you really need a minimum of a 8x6 to play on.

PS dont get me started on the ECW project I have barely started on.
Rather large 15mm Royalist force in 15mm to paint u, DBR may be the salvation. 12-15 elements at a time rather than a huge army at once. Or flog em and start again in the much more sensible 6mm.

TBH I got em for two reasons.

15mm ECW was the first real wargame I saw at Rotherham library and Lart are supposed to be doing a renaissance book.

think closer to 12x6 for BP in 28mm.. or using seriously small units like 6 model horse and 12 model foot, at which point you do wonder why not just use a better scale..

do love Sharp Practice though

Ordered the Russians. Once basic DBN force is done I will hopefully get some French.
I like to have opposing forces where possible.

France vs Prussia today.

French managed to get into the BUA in the centre of the board with infantry on each flank. Heavy cavalry supported by horse artillery on the right .
My Prussians lined up to assault the town whilst another division of infantry moved off on my right to hit the French, it did only leave some one each of light and heavy cav and a unit of artillery to hold the other flank.

Attack on the town went well and the Prussians took command, it did come at a cost though. The losses taken to get into the town weakened my lads and a combined infantry and cavalry attach crushed my left. A unit of light horse did manage to beat back their heavy opponents but only briefly.

The play style of DBA but units having to take attrition before dying I am really enjoying.

Cant wait for Russians to arrive they are going right to top of painting list, just enough to play a force then hope to get some French for x mass pressie to do an opposing force.

The Russians have arrived.
Ordering the French when I am able.

Def going to do a basic DBN force first as that is manageable then onwards.

For mother Russia.

Make a start on these on Tue hopefully

Doing a basic DBN force first then on to bigger games

Commander, these are a separate base in DBN and not quite like a unit in DBA
4 x Muskets
2 x Artillery, they are Russian after all
2 x Heavy Cav
2 x Cossack irregular cav
2 x LH also irregular cav

That is a basic force, then prob knock up another set as alternates

2 more Muskets
2 Light inf
2 Jagers, classed differently than LI
1 x Grenadier units

All of the above are on DBX bases

May need 3 or 4 times more for Blucher and BP, more bases the better for the big game effect and a single BP or Blucher unit may be four or six DBN bases.

Hope to got I get my painting mojo on.

Looking forward to more games of this as the attrition rules dissordering, shaking then killing a base make it a different game to DBA
