quite on hidden away, was trying to sort some stuff for work next week and found I do actually have some Gauls, Victrix, only one pack, presumably bought for SAGA as can't think what else they would have been for.

unarmoured infantry bods, but will be able to get basic warriors out of them easily, unarmoured heads will make for "tribal levy" easily enough, for when my warriors are just far too scary and effective and I need something to make the game less lopsided...

also a few command figures which will be useful and likely some skirmishers with Javelins... need to find my dark age warriors box to see if the sling hands will fit these Gauls..

likely all used together for a while but will mean I can run a few options.

Barbarians do have ways of dealing with Romans, the "fervour" mechanic especially, plus the ranged weapons I forgot they had may help, as will the full deployment rules for stuff like ambushes. Saturday was more about giving the basic mechanics of the game a try out

fun though

Thanks to Reece I have taken a leap forward.
Got enough Roman's to do the basic list with a bit of proxy and am going to cut off the bases to put em on 2p pieces.

Got some archers, more legion and some Pretorians so as ever project goes on.

The GW movement trays are a great bet to up armour a tank.
Bloomin hard to cut the figs off that's for sure.

Got a couple of units of Auxiliary on 2p pieces now and started on the Legions.

Clearly not my own work but after all the cutting and chopping I do feel a little invested in em.

Centurion Biggus Namus Leader III
Optio Storius Storius Leader II
3 x Contuberium of legionary troops
1 x Auxillary foot unit with supra numerum leader
1 x Auxillary archers unit with supra numerum leader

Then got some spares and extra units if we ever need em.

Also got a mahoosive basic fort I picked up last year, will certainly suffice as the perimeter of a marching camp.

This lot got some support still in boxes and all need their bases tidying up but are up for a scrap, time will tell if they are a battle hardened crack force or troops best left to chopping wood and digging latrines.

Starting to get my Gauls actually ready using actual Gauls - though to be honest they would be semi interchangable with the Anglo Saxons in many ways..

complete and ready to go are:
- leader on foot (as I needed a second leader model so as not to have to borrow Dave's)
- standard bearer on foot, because why not, only usable in the campaign system
- musician on foot
- one group of 6 skirmishers with Javelins

nearly ready and should be finished this week
- 2x 10 light armoured warriors

have enough models to basically double this, but lack armoured figures or actual cavalry. need to dig up the unassembled "dark age warriors" to build some slingers as well

Good man

DBA Viking force now based.

Got my Macedonian pike on the painting table and pretty much bought one of all the skin tones Colin had.
My trusty Dwarf flesh is nearly used up, it has a nice out in the sun for decades look so wanted to get some bronzed flesh on em. Got some Essex orange somewhere.

I am putting together some crusaders for my 8th Army, goes to show difference in 3 and 4 my original force for V3 just had two Matildas in it. Got a decent sized infantry force so will be interesting to see how it can stand up to a V4 DAK force. The desert Rats are about even on battle honours at the mo with some absolutely crushing defeats where they barely scratched the enemy.

Once the crusaders and Macedonians are done the Roman basing project is next then will have a crack at the Ancient British/Gauls. I think the trick will be getting a mob out at a time as looking at m all will oveface me.

found with these, painted the same way I did my Anglo-Saxons they don't actually take long - skin is three layer - drybrushed mostly, the rest is base colour & wash then a dusty drybrush over the lot and done

Still not looking forward to it in the slightest.
I have still got to finish my 15mm cavalry for my Ancient British, I did do a crap ton of infantry though.
