bit of a blast from the past, still going though..
it has an intimidating rulebook, my version of which is in four large and one smaller ring binder.. thankfully mostly not actually needed - rules written by an engineer, if you have two obscure things carried by a handful of units, the rules will cover any special interaction between them - there isn't much thats "as intended" here, its pretty much entirely "as written".
Dave C. has the basic set, I've got somewhat more (this was my main game during college), but will be sticking to the basic stuff to start with. I've copied up the basic set ship displays for:
- United Federation of Planets (robust if slow and sluggish ships)
- Klingon Empire (fast glass hammers)
- Romulan Star Empire (either slow and sneaky, of fast glass hammers, that can hide)
- Kzinti Hegemony (Macross Missile Massacre)
- Gorn Confederation (reasonably robust, reasonably fast, fair hard hitting if sluggish ships)
for now I've left out the Tholians and forgot to take the book with the Orion Pirates when copying stuff. all of these except the Kzinti featured during the 1960's tv series, which is the setting for the game (well that era anyway), the Kzinti being from the books and animated series. There are considerably more factions in later expansions but this is the basic lot for now.
the rules easily support multi-player, either as teams or as several factions - though most scenarios are 1v1 or team v team, I also have the tournament pack which has specific ships (not yet copied out) but some interesting scenarios for multi-player games
plan is next time we are allowed out to play to bring it down and run a few games, either playing it or just running it for others.
this is a card counters & hex grid game, there are models and indeed hexless game rules but I don't have either
if anyones up for some Photon, Phaser, Plasma and drone mayhem.....
Welcome to the Acadamy
Star Fleet Battles
Re: Star Fleet Battles
Def want a game of this at some point, but only if you have a game of BFG in return.
Not that I have a clue how that works either.
