Cool spots
The recoil then flee results I had looked at and emailed the writer were relating to the firing outcome.
Think one of my cossak units was shot in side near board edge.
It doesn't turn to face attacker then flee off the edge it recoils to it's own rear base edge, then turns 180 ° and flees towards its rear board edge deviating its route as little as possible to avoid terrain and other units.
Sounds like it is a different outcome with combat.
Rally enjoyed the games and def want to get to bigger games, BP and Blucher being eventual goal.

Re: DBN
yes 8.18 for flank and rear only covers close combat stuff, not ranged fire
Recoiling from firing is interesting, wonderfully its not on the tables but hidden in the actual "flee" rule 7.19.3. and yes this for firing will mean directly backwards (even if being shot in the back this takes them closer to the enemy - and if they hit the enemy they are eliminated) as the bit on turning to face is only in 8.18 which as noted is close combat only - so yes directly back, then turn to face the board edge and 600p.
hence the only way to be pushed off the board by a "flee" is to have the board edge already to your rear, and within one base depth - otherwise you simply don't hit it
